Our story

Behind the beauty of the craft is a reality we don’t always see.

For generations, artisans have carried India’s craftsmanship forward with their hands. Yet behind the jewellery and the intricate pieces we admire, many kaarigars work long hours in difficult conditions, without the resources, protection or support they need.

The tools of a trade, passed down through families.
One window. No extraction. The dust stays in the room.
The reality

Long hours, and often, very little protection.

Often this work happens in small rooms with a single window and no extraction. Polishing dust, solder fumes and fine metal particles stay in the air all day, and the people breathing them rarely see a doctor about it until something is already wrong.

Closed roomsMany benches sit in small workshops with little ventilation.
Missed earlyIllness is often caught late, and work-related illness is easy to mistake for something else.
No safety netWith piece-rate work, a week off sick can mean a week without income.

The hands that create something beautiful should not have to pay the price for it.

That is where Dariba to Kaarigar begins.

Our mission

Standing with the person behind the piece.

We look past the finished product to the people who make it, with training, resources, safer working practices, better equipment, and a steadier way to earn.

Training

Workshops that widen what an artisan can take on and charge for.

Resources

Help with materials and the basics needed to take on better work.

Safer practices

Health camps, lung check-ups, and safer habits at the bench.

Equipment

Better tools that ease the strain of long days at the bench.

Livelihoods

A route to buyers who value handmade work, and a fairer way to earn.

Our identity

The meaning behind the mark.

Three elements, each carrying a piece of what we are trying to do. Tap one to see it in the logo.

Every strike, every etch, every polished surface carries decades of inherited skill.

Built for our kaarigars

KaamTrace: so the doctor knows what the work involves.

When a kaarigar falls ill, the doctor usually has no idea what they handle all day: the solder, the acids, the polishing dust. KaamTrace lets an artisan describe their work by speaking into a phone in Hindi, turns it into a simple card to show a doctor, and points to government hospitals near them, anywhere in India.

  1. 01SpeakDescribe your day’s work into the mic, in Hindi. No typing, no forms.
  2. 02Get your cardA Hindi side for you, and an English side for the doctor listing work-related exposures to consider.
  3. 03Find careTell us where you live, see government hospitals near you, and take the card with you.

KaamTrace doesn’t diagnose. It helps a worker and a doctor have the right conversation. It’s free, needs no name, and everything stays on the worker’s phone.

Preserving India’s craftsmanship is not only about saving a tradition. It is about protecting the people who carry that tradition forward.

Reviving heritage. Empowering communities.

Crafting heritage. Building lives.
